AztecsIT WAS ALL GOING SO WELLSo since I didn't post an update last week, here's a 2-week recap.Started out second session with 3 vassals, managed to vassalise two more, got my second reform through and started colonising north.All the southern Mayan nations formed a coalition against me and DOW'd me. I managed to win all major battles outnumbered 3 to 1. In the last battle, I literally had 0.01 morale left, and managed to stack wipe the other side.Forced the release of nations, vassalised two more, and immediately ran into a problem.I was permanently at a financial deficit. I could not run a surplus. I took loans and managed to constantly pay them off by taking money from other nations in wars.I managed to pull of another heroic victory by the skin of my teeth against a coalition of all other nahutl nations, with no manpower, outnumbered 10 to 1. Had to keep debasing currency in order to stop a bankruptcy, which would disband my mercenary army.My manpower is capped at an increase of 100 per month until I reform.I took a shed ton of loans during the coalition war in order to build up a mercenary army so that I wouldn't have all my vassals taken away from me in a peace deal.Loans, Loans, Loans. Developing provinces would give +0.05 income and i was running a defecit of 9.Disbanded the mercenaries after the war, and lost track of how many loans I had.
Completely my mistake here.And then, when I was literally 10 mil power away from getting mil tech 3, when I had 3 vassals, a few hundred admin and dip points.AZTECS HAVE GONE BANKRUPT.FUCK.1500 monarch points. Army morale tanked.3 DOW's on me and 1 vassals starts an independence war.Peaced out the mayans by releasing my vassals, so my vassals would then start helping me in the wars instead of having the disloyal attitude.Managed to re-vassalise one, and white peace the other.my finances were completely fucked. Inflation was at 27%.
Corruption at 42%.BANKRUPTCY, BANKRUPTCY, BANKRUPTCY, BANKRUPTCY, BANKRUPTCY.SOMEHOW managed to vassalize 5 nations and get my third religious reform through after 5 bankruptcies.Then, got DOW'd by a coalition of all Mesopotamian nations. Fought till the bitter end, pulling off several major victories in battles, including wiping a stack just before another arrived. Casualty ratio was 20:1 for my enemies by the end of it.But in the end, I could not raise enough revenue. Loans, currency debasing and inflation caused my final bankruptcy.My mercenaries disbanded, and my country became fully occupied. Forced to release all my vassals, and cede many provinces. GG.I had 3 religious reforms. I had such a good start.
I'd been able to reform Aztecs before, but a serious turn of bad luck in terms of AI alliances, coalitions, bad finance managing on my part and perhaps too aggressive play finally took their toll.It was fun while it lasted, and thank you to all the players at r/europe for the game. The chat in discord was very entertaining, but I majorly fucked up my nation.I think I may have pressed the debase currency button a bit too much. 52% corruption.

I have such a fascination with the country of Russia. To me, Russia is a mythical country where up until 2011, beverages below 10% alcohol by volume were considered to be foodstuffs and were given to children as young as 13. It certainly feels that way — the camera physically makes me want to throw up, and the design overall feels like trying to crash a party blasted out of my mind, not quite over the peak of drunkenness that seperates the great buzz from several alcoholic beverages from the regret of having several alcoholic beverages.But here's the thing: Hotline Miami works because it is designed so ♥♥♥♥ing tightly that the experience is seamless, anarchic, and bloody, like a great concert from a punk band that knows their ♥♥♥♥ and capitulates on their effort and practice. By comparison, Bloodbath Kavkaz is a drunk ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who gets up on stage twenty minutes after the concert's over and tries to pull off that same lick on the lead guitarist's guitar, immediately realizing it's not on the same chord and it doesn't even know what strings to play in what order and fashion. And almost immediately, that drunk ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is taken backstage by the punk band's roadies to be given constructive criticism via a swift beating.If you're going to rip something off, rip it off well. Or at the very least, take careful, careful notes on the thing you're ripping off.

We figured most people wouldn't survive very long, and you'd come across their bodies—but we needed a way to set these apart from all the dead ragdolls of the Common Infected. By simply covering a body with a blanket or sheet, it becomes really obvious that this guy had a buddy, a friend, and when he went down, his friend had compassion and covered him up.
This also tells a story about the state of the world that they wouldn't want to go out and bury the body—they couldn't expose themselves to Infected. So they'd have the bodies right there with them, but covered. Sometimes you'll see a covered body right outside a checkpoint. So it's like they were in a safe area and, maybe during the night, their buddy died from his wounds; so the next morning the other Survivors didn't really want the body in there with them, so they dragged it outside.

The game has indeed shifted a lot during development. While it started out with a lot of emphasis on the survival rogue-like elements, player feedback and interest in the story shifted development towards a more narrative-focused experience.The gameplay is still stealth-based, but sneaking around is mostly for nighttime exploring.
For the most part the game is about blending in with the natives, not doing anything to arouse suspicion (at least, not while they're in earshot). Combat is stamina-based first-person melee, although you do have some throwaway weapons and some traps.You still explore peoceedurally-created islands filled with different mission types, but every player has some set story missions that you play to progress. These bits are filled with narrative or world-building conversations that flesh out the character you're playing and/or the world that you've «woken up» into.In point of fact, the last major update they released even introduced different experience modes for different players.
So if you want to take on the whole survival aspect of the game, with its multiple resource meters and crafting material scarcity, you can do that! But if you're more interested in discovering the story and the secrets, you can choose a mode where the survival mechanics are toned down a lot.
